 A SHARED MISSION

The Refugio Animales de Nosara and SIBU Sanctuary share a common mission: to rescue injured, orphaned, and displaced wild animals and provide them immediate medical care, rehabilitation, and eventual release into the wild. Animals unlikely to survive in the wild receive attentive, long-term care. We are also educators and advocates who work cooperatively with other organizations to encourage respect for animals’ lives and preservation of their habitat. Our work is complementary, but different. Read Nosara Wildlife's Goals (pdf file)

REFUGIO ANIMALES DE NOSARA
  • Rescues all types of wild animals that have been
injured, orphaned, or displaced. Howler monkeys are
    our specialty.
  • Provides animals immediate medical attention
  • Feeds, shelters, and provides ongoing medical assessment and treatment in a safe environment
  • Rehabilitates animals with assistance from veterinary
    and wildlife specialists
  • Works closely with Costa Rica’s electric company
    (ICE) to prevent electrocutions
  • Is developing a new clinic to improve response time
    for treatment
SIBU SANCTUARY
  • Transfers animals in stable condition to enclosed
habitats within the jungle to reintroduce them to their
natural setting. (Depending on an animal’s condition,
    a quarantine program is followed.)
  • Provides ongoing rehabilitative care in the secured
    jungle enclosure
  • Transitions animals after quarantine to a steppeddown, secure habitat with an open canopy, enabling them to begin experiencing life in the wild again
  • Sets free healthy animals able to survive on their own
  • Provides a permanent, enriching habitat for animals
    needing long-term care
