Let’s wake-up to our impacts and do all we can to mitigate them by taking these simple actions:
- Talk with everyone about electrocution and other threats to wild animals to help raise awareness.
- If you are constructing a new building, insulate your power lines or, even better, bury them underground. If you know people who are building, encourage them to do the right thing.
- Prevent electrocutions by regularly inspecting power lines and transformers in your area. Look for vegetation that an animal could use to climb to a “hot” line or transformer and quickly have it cut back professionally, or call ICE for help: 2682-0166.
- Preserve existing trees and plant new ones. Trees serve as homes, food, and highways for many animals. When trees are cut, animals are forced to the ground, where they are in danger.
- Keep your dog close. Free-roaming dogs are injuring and killing many wild animals.
